Microsoft has been quite busy with delivering new updates for its Windows operating system these days. Windows 10 received an update which improved stability and ‘quality’ of the system first, and then Windows 7 and Windows 8 also received some updates which improved systems’ compatibility with a Windows 10 Upgrade.
Compatibility updates that Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 received are re-released updates, as they were also present before. But besides these updates, Microsoft also released two new updates for Windows 7, Windows 8.1 and Windows Server – KB3138612 and KB3138615.
Microsoft Releases Two New Update Client Updates for Windows 7
The first update is KB3138612, and it brings some improvements to the Update Client of Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1) and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1. This update replaces the previous update, KB3135445, with a few fresh improvements. However, Microsoft didn’t precise which changes have exactly been made, in its Knowledge Base article about the update.
The second update that Microsoft released ‘in the same wave’ is the KB3138615 update for Windows 8.1 and Server 2012 R2. It updates the Update Client of these systems, as well, and replaces the previous update KB3044374. So, as you can see, both of these updates are basically same, only for different versions of Windows.
As we said, we don’t know what aspect of the Windows Update Client has been updated with the recent update, but since Microsoft’s main aim with Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 is to convince their users to upgrade to the most recent offering, Windows 10, we won’t be surprised if the update has something to do with making it easier for users to upgrade.
In case you installed one of these updates on your Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 computer, and you noticed any changes with the Update process, pleas let us know in the comments. Also, tell us if you encountered some problem after installing the update, and we’ll try to find a proper solution for you.
