Why Scalebound could hit Microsoft’s Xbox console

June 2023 · 3 minute read

It’s been a while since Microsoft officially announced that it was going to cancel Scalebound, the action-adventure game that was being developed by PlatinumGames.

Microsoft didn’t give any specifics about why Scalebound was cancelled other than stating that after several attempts to get the game development back on track, it decided to pull the plug.

The development team behind the title has since moved on to other projects, but it appears that the studios are still interested in the IP, and might revisit it at some point in the future.

Developers views

Since it was cancelled, many gamers have been showing a lot of interest hoping Microsoft will rethink and renew it. The developers also still have a lot of interest in renewing the game.

Sometimes in an interview, you will hear a developer hoping that Microsoft will reconsider the game. Many of them are passionate about Scalebound and would love to continue working on the game.

Developers of the game say that they would be able to resume development of Scalebound, if given the chance. They want to have a proper discussion with Microsoft on reviving the game.

Any discussion about reviving Scalebound with Microsoft would need to include serious consideration about the title’s fate.

Scalebound’s development

Scalebound was developed by platinum games on behalf of Microsoft’s Xbox One console and Windows operating system some time back.

When the game was announced to the public, it received a lot of attention from gamers who were interested in its features. After the public announcement, it took some years again before Microsoft launched it due to delays caused by technical issues.

The game, which is set in a world that is a mix of fantasy, had the player controlling who is assisted by a dragon, which he can control.

The game’s graphics were amazing and the gameplay looked extremely promising. The title was due to be published by Microsoft Studios but was cancelled later.

It’s not clear if Microsoft holds any rights to the Scalebound concept or IP, or if it’s entirely something PlatinumGames can continue developing on its own.

But if development were to continue, then the game can likely be released on Microsoft’s upcoming Xbox hardware, as well as Windows PCs.
