The latest Insider Preview build for Windows 10 brought new capabilities to some of the operating system’s core apps and functions. Among the list of benefiting parties is OneDrive, which now has a new On-Demand feature. The new OneDrive On-Demand feature allows for a better OneDrive experience and functionality.

OneDrive On-Demand is the answer to many users’ prayers

According to Microsoft, this is a feature that fans and longtime users have been asking about for a very long time. Those that have tried the new feature on the Insiders Preview platform attest to its similarity to “placeholders”. However, it is definitely a far better version or alternative rather, which is all the more good news for current OneDrive users but also potential newcomers.

Complete control over cloud downloads

Cloud technology is undoubtedly great but at times it can be quite limiting in terms of what users are able to do and control. OneDrive On-Demand sets out to alter a number of control users have over their cloud-based downloads. Basically, the new implementations bring new commands and prompt for when a local application tries to access a user’s cloud storage and download files that are only stored on the cloud.

The new Dos and Don’ts of cloud downloading

If an application such as Photo Editor attempts to download files from the cloud, users will be able to see information regarding what exactly the app is trying to download, but also what source is the download request actually coming from. On top of that, users will also receive new options on how to deal with this type of situation.

To be more specific, they will receive new commands that will let them either dismiss the prompt, stop the download immediately or block the app entirely. The latter option will prevent the app from attempting to download again. Of course, such a feature demanded an “undo button” so an option for unblocking apps has also been added. It is located in the Privacy section of Settings, under App-Requested Downloads.

That’s about it. These are the new capabilities that await both newcoming and returning OneDrive users. As the app continues to grow and expand, users are able to witness the various transformations that the software faces. It is clear that the OneDrive team is trying to make sure that all these transformations are for the better and that users get to benefit the most from them.
