What to do if Slack can’t find a channel

The channel_not_found error seemingly appears only with bots in the private channels when using the Slack API for third-party integration. For example, some users have had a hard time configuring Slack to work with Python and were met with the error at hand.

Some of them managed to resolve this by simply unlocking the private channel while others made sure that the app has permissions to access Slack.

In addition, if you’re still bothered by the same error, you can replace the channel ID with the encoded ID. You can easily find out the ID of your channel by simply navigating to it in the browser.

The usual name tag is replaced with the alphanumeric set of characters. This you can use to reconfigure settings. In addition, primarily set the bot to work with the general channel.

Afterward, you’ll get prompted to allow it in the private channel of your choice. This is a common solution, as well. Furthermore and in regards to permissions, make sure you allowed a third-party app to access Slack channels and your workspace.

After that, you shouldn’t have issues with the channel_not_found error. If you’re, on the other hand, still stuck with the error, contacting support is another thing you can try. However, have in mind that some actions (like Slacker integration) are not Slack‘s responsibility.

With that said, we can conclude this article. Don’t forget to post your feedback below or suggest alternative solutions. We look forward to hearing from you.
