Microsoft promised it would bring its Windows 10 apps to the Xbox One, and it means business. Hulu, Weather and Netflix are already available on the console, and it appears another app will soon join their ranks.
Groove Music is already present on the Xbox One, and should soon become functional. For the time being, the app can only be viewed and you’ll get an error message if you try to install it.
Microsoft has yet to reveal when Groove Music would be fully available on the Xbox One, but the fact it’s already visible on the console hints at a release that’s around the corner. Perhaps the next Xbox One update will actually make Groove Music available to users.
Since Groove Music is now universal, the Xbox One version should be similar to the desktop version of the app. Of course, developers will make changes to adapt Groove Music to larger television displays and the Kinect controller.
Microsoft will also introduce new interesting features to the upcoming Groove Music app for the Xbox One, and has already revealed the app’s background music feature:
Groove will be launching a new app experience on Xbox One that includes background music. In the meantime, you can continue enjoying the current Groove app.
This feature can be useful for players who prefer to turn off the game’s soundtrack and leave only the in-game sound effects on.
For the time being, Microsoft hasn’t yet confirmed whether Groove Music will support all regions, but many fans will definitely be disappointed if there are region-related limitations.
The list of UWP apps available on the Xbox One is limited, but Microsoft should roll out more apps to its console once the Anniversary Update is released.
