Creating a local network isn’t always easy, and there might be some errors from time to time. Speaking of errors, it seems that Windows 10 users are having some issues with local networks and according to them they are getting: the account is not authorized to login from this station error.

What to do if The The Account is Not Authorized to Login From a Certain Station

Users report that they are unable to connect to other computers on their network on Windows 10. This can be a big problem if you are network administrator at your workplace, or if you heavily rely on local network at your home, but fortunately for you we have some solutions that you might want to try out.

Solution 1 – Edit your registry

First thing we’re going to try is one registry tweak. To perform this registry tweak, do the following:

Run Registry Editor. To open Registry Editor you need to press Windows Key + R and type regedit and press Enter to run it.

In the left side of Registry Editor navigate to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanWorkstation\Parameters.

In the right pane of Registry Editor right click on empty space and choose New > DWORD. Set the name of DWORD to AllowInsecureGuestAuth. Double click the AllowInsecureGuestAuth key and set its Value to 1.

Click OK to close DWORD properties and close the Registry Editor.

Now restart your computer and see if the issue is resolved.

However, if performing this registry workaround didn’t get the job done, try some of the solutions below.

Solution 2 – Use PowerShell

This solution does the same thing as the Registry Editor solution that we mentioned earlier, but if you don’t know how to work with Registry Editor you might want to try this solution instead.

In the Search bar type PowerShell.

Right click PowerShell from the list of results and choose Run as administrator.

When PowerShell launches paste this line into it and press Enter to run it:

Set-ItemProperty -Path "HKLM:\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanWorkstation\Parameters" AllowInsecureGuestAuth -Value 1 -Force

Restart your computer.

Solution 3 – Change the Group Policy

Users report that in Windows 10 Group Policy for Network access: Sharing and security model for local accounts is set to Classic by default instead of Guest, and this is the main cause for this issue. To fix this you need to do the following:

Press Windows Key + R and type gpedit.msc and press OK to run it.

On the left pane navigate to Computer Configuration > Windows Settings > Security Settings > Local Policies > Security Options.

Now on the right pane find Network access: Sharing and security model for local accounts and double click it.

Set it to Guest and click OK to save the changes.
