Windows 10 1909 bugs

The November 2019 Patch Tuesday update is here and it finally brings Windows 10 version 1909.

The not so awaited Windows 10 v1909 comes with a host of new features, but some bugs and issues as well. This article is meant to cover some of the most prevalent among them, and maybe even how you can fix them.

Naturally, they range in severity, from minor bugs to issues that may even block your PC’s functionality.

What are the most common bugs in Windows 10 v1909?

1. MSRT installation loop

It would seem that some users have reported having to download the Malicious Software Removal Tool over and over if they try to apply the latest patch and fail:

Anyone else having to download malicious software removal tool (November 2019) again after installing said update.

Thankfully enough, the issue seems to have been fixed after installing the latest update, as reported by other users.

2. Installing the update seems to take longer on some computers

There seems to be a discrepancy in terms of how long it takes for the update to apply between PCs.

What makes this issue particularly odd is that the update is small in size, so differences in download times should be next to unnoticeable:

I downloaded the cumulative and i’ll wait a few days on flipping the switch over to 1909. Only oddity on the cumulative is that it took a long time on my desktop and only slightly long on the laptop. Since I started paying attention to these things, I think this is the first time an update involved removing superseded updates during the process, which slowed things down.

3. Visual bugs with menus when right-clicking taskbar items

Some users are experiencing a bug where right-clicking shortcuts from the taskbar will produce a menu that is too far away. Apparently, the gap between the shortcut and the options menu is much bigger than expected:

[…]when I right-click on a shortcut on my taskbar, the menu that appears sometimes appears too high up on the screen, so there is a gap between it and the taskbar, then it will suddenly drop down so the gap disappears. I’ve never seen this in previous versions of Windows 10.

4. The Task View animation is still lagging

Users are experiencing issues with the Task view animation, as it seems to respond very slow visually. However, it would seem that these issues seem to have been fixed in the 20H1 insider builds:

Task View animation is still a laggy mess, Action Center blur bug still there…

5. Error 0x800f081f is acting out again

Some users have issues installing the latest update, as they come across error 0x800f081f:

Failed to install, recreated issue and posted Windows Feedback issue, hope this gets noticed:
Feature update to Windows 10, version 1909 – Error 0x800f081f
Tried many wizrardy things about this before, and can’t pinpoint the issue – besides Windows Powershell “Get-WindowsUpdateLog” cmdlet do you guys know any other verbose-logging tools? I would love to understand what was wrong for the update to fail

6. Some users can’t install the latest update due to error message 0x800f0988

This error message is somewhat similar in behavior as 0x800f081f, but the exact cause is currently unknown, and no solutions as to how to fix it currently exist.

That’s a general bug roundup for Windows 10 v1909, and if you haven’t updated yet, you should do it as soon as possible so that you can get the latest protective features.
