Definitive Edition listed as available for Xbox One

Age of Empires is one of the Microsoft’s biggest game series that has had three primary installments to date, numerous expansion packs and a few spin-off titles to boot. The original Age of Empires was among the first historical real-time strategy games and a good alternative to Command and Conquer tank warfare. Microsoft released an AoE remake in 2018 with the launch of Age of Empires: Definitive Edition for Windows 10.

Now a leaked screenshot highlights that Age of Empires: Definitive Edition might also be coming to the Xbox One.

A seemingly genuine leaked snapshot of Age of Empires: Definitive Edition for Xbox One recently appeared on the Resetera forum. The screenshot shows an Italian Xbox Store page that includes Age of Empires: Definitive Edition.

The details for the game are in Spanish, but the page in the shot clearly lists AoE Definitive Edition as available for Xbox One.

The screenshot has been leaked just ahead of November’s X018 event. X018 is an Xbox presentation that includes numerous gaming announcements for the console. Thus, the screenshot has raised speculation that Microsoft might be about to announce an Age of Empires: Definitive Edition release for the Xbox One.

Furthermore, Microsoft officially announced keyboard and mouse support for the Xbox One in September 2018. Thus, it is widely expected that more exclusive Windows games with keyboard and mouse controls will become available for the Xbox One in 2019.

The X018 presentation will certainly provide more details about keyboard and mouse support for the Xbox One. Age of Empires: Definitive Edition could be among the first keyboard and mouse games for the Xbox.

Age of Empires: Definitive Edition release date
Age of Empires: Definitive Edition would not be first game in the AoE series ported to consoles. Age of Empires II got a release on the PlayStation 2.

Age of Empires III was also among one of the few games ported to the somewhat unknown N-Gage mobile gaming platform for Nokia phones. However, the series has largely been exclusive to Windows primarily because of its keyboard and mouse controls.

The AoE series has been somewhat neglected since Age of Empires III. However, Microsoft Studios and Relic announced in 2018 that they will be expanding the series with Age of Empires 4.

The publishers have revealed little about the game as of yet, but they did show off an announcement trailer for AoE 4. As such, Age of Empires 4 could potentially be another AoE game release for the Xbox One.

So Age of Empires: Definitive Edition could be coming to the Xbox One. If it is, Microsoft might announce as such at X018. With keyboard and mouse support for Xbox One expanding in 2019, games such as Rise of Nations: Extended Edition, Total War: Warhammer II and Civilization VI could also get released on Microsoft’s flagship console.
