Those of you still running the Windows 7 OS are probably well aware that support for it ends in January 2020.
However, those of you that still want to use it for 2 more years can always opt to use the Extended Support offered by Microsoft.
The problem is that those of you that do not have this feature and have not upgraded to Windows 10 yet by the deadline will be met with a notification like the one below:
Once you’ve clicked on the Remind me later button, you will be able to resume your work on your Windows 7 PC. However, this notification can be a bit frustrating for those that want to continue using it in peace.
Since plenty of users will most likely not upgrade by the end of the deadline, we’ve decided to create a step-by-step guide on how to disable this notification for good.
How do I disable the Windows 7 out of support message?
The notification is part of the December round of patches that Microsoft has released for Windows 7, and it is nothing more than an upgraded version of the End of Service notification released earlier this year.
This will require you to modify some of your Windows 7 registries. For those of you that aren’t to keen and doing so without assistance, you should always consider using a dedicated registry editor that can do the job for you.
However, those of you that are more tech-savvy and know their way around registries can follow these steps:
- The Registry Editor will launch
- HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionEOSNotify
Alternatively, you can always simply select Don’t remind me again during the notification, which will also set the DiscontinueEOS value to 1.
Once you performed these changes, you will no longer see the Windows 7 out of Support message ever again.
However, keep in mind that staying on an unsupported OS can leave you vulnerable to cyber-attacks and threats due to the lack of support offered. That is why it is a good idea to upgrade, even if you do postpone the notification for a while longer.
Do you think that the notification is a good idea? Let us know in the comment section below.
