Fix – Disk Cleanup button missing Windows 10

Solution 1 – Change your Recycle Bin settings

Disk Cleanup and Recycle Bin are tightly connected, and if Disk Cleanup button is missing from hard drive properties, it’s most likely because of Recycle Bin settings. It seems that you can configure Recycle Bin to permanently delete your files without sending them to Recycle Bin first.

If you turn this feature on, Disk Cleanup button will disappear, but you can get it back by following these simple steps:

  • Locate Recycle Bin on your Desktop and right click it. Choose Properties from the menu.

  • When Properties window opens, select Custom size in Settings for selected location section.
  • Click Apply and OK to save changes.

  • After doing that, Disk Cleanup button should appear again in the disk properties section.

Solution 2 – Check your registry

Sometimes Disk Cleanup button can disappear due to registry corruption, so you’ll have to manually change your registry. Changing the registry can lead to system instability if you’re not careful, therefore we strongly recommend that you create a backup of your registry first. To edit your registry, do the following:

  • Press Windows Key + R and enter regedit. Press Enter or click OK.

  • When Registry Editor opens, navigate to the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\MyComputer key in the left pane.
  • Look for cleanuppath key. If this key isn’t available, you’ll need to create it by right clicking the MyComputer key and choosing New > Key. Enter cleanuppath as the name of the new key.

  • Close Registry Editor.
  • After changing this value in your registry, Disk Cleanup button should appear again.

Solution 3 – Remove Undelete software

Users reported that this error started occuring after installing Undelete Professional Edition software. This tool is designed to remove your Recycle Bin and replace it with its own Recycle Bin that allows users to restore their deleted files.

Expert Tip: Some PC issues are hard to tackle, especially when it comes to corrupted repositories or missing Windows files. If you are having troubles fixing an error, your system may be partially broken. We recommend installing Restoro, a tool that will scan your machine and identify what the fault is.
Click here to download and start repairing.

Although this sounds incredibly useful, this application can interfere with Disk Cleanup and cause Disk Cleanup button to disappear. If you’re having this problem on your PC, we suggest that you uninstall Undelete software in order to restore original Recycle Bin and Disk Cleanup button.

Bear in mind that other tools that replace your Recycle Bin can also cause this error, so be sure to uninstall them.

Solution 4 – Turn on User Account Control

User Account Control is a useful feature that notifies you whenever you or any application tries to make a system change that requires administrator privileges. Although User Account Control feature is useful, sometimes it can be annoying, and many users choose to turn this feature off.

It seems that turning this feature off also disables Disk Cleanup button for some users. To fix this problem, you need to turn User Account Control back on by following these steps:

  • Press Windows Key + S and enter user accounts. Select User Accounts from the menu.
