- One of the most requested features for Windows 11 is for developers to bring back all taskbar functionalities.
- However, a new Feedback Hub post, that got over 20,000 upvotes, has recently made its way to Microsoft's table.
- At this moment, Redmond officials only gave a generic response to the thread, not giving any certainties about this.
- More additions and restrictions are coming to the new OS, so make sure you keep yourself informed on everything.
You surely remember all the discussions that were sparked by the fact that the taskbar for the new operating system lacks a lot of functions that we’ve all grown accustomed to.
Until today, you couldn’t drag and drop anything to your Windows 11 taskbar, and you also couldn’t just move it to any part of the desktop you want.
Well, both options are still unavailable to us, but we are actually going to get the drag and drop feature next year.
Drag and drop will be available in 2022
One of the central innovations of Microsoft’s new operating system is the completely redesigned taskbar and the associated start menu.
To be honest, both elements look chic and also have functional improvements to offer, but users are still displeased with the fact that not all functionalities we had on Windows 10 are present now.
The taskbar is by far the most important element in the daily use of Windows and in the latest version of the operating system, the Redmond company has made some changes that sparked major backlash.
This includes forced grouping and the lack of the ability to drag programs or files and folders onto the taskbar.
The latter also means that apps cannot simply be linked there using drag and drop, and opening a file via an application in the taskbar does not work in this way either.
Indeed, this is a great start, but we’re pretty sure this won’t please users 100%. Yes, the drag and drop feature for the taskbar was a must, but it’s only a drop in the ocean.
The most highly requested feature, when it comes to the new OS’s taskbar, is by far the ability to attach it wherever you want on the desktop. Right now, the taskbar can only be attached at the bottom of the screen.
So, now that the Redmond tech company decided to make one of the requested changes, the question is if they will stop here or actually listen to the community and go the extra mile.
There’s no official rollout date for this new functionality, but we’re certain it will come to us via an update, in the first half of 2022.
There aren’t many customization options available for the Windows 11 taskbar right now either, besides the fact that you can play with the transparency option a bit.
You can also pin the Recycle Bin to the taskbar, if you really want to have an empty desktop, with absolutely nothing on it.
What other changes do you think Microsoft should definitely undergo when it comes to the taskbar? Share your opinion with us in the comments section below.
