Minecraft Store now features its own virtual currency

April 2023 · 2 minute read

A new storefront for selected Minecraft content made by users was announced by Microsoft for Windows Mobile and Windows 10 that will go live alongside the game’s 1.1 Discovery update. The new store will only be applicable to the C++ “Bedrock Engine” editions of the game and will allow approved teams and creators to sell their Minecraft skins, maps and some other assets using Minecraft coins, a virtual currency.

The  idea of this is to support the game’s community of artists & entrepreneurs and make it easier for players to track down the best maps.

The storefront will be released with partners including Blockworks, Blockception, Eneija Silverleaf, Imagiverse, Polyamps, Noxcrew, Qwertyuiop The Pie, Sphax and Razzelberry Fox with mini-games, texture packs and a mix of adventure maps.

New creators will be added by Microsoft monthly to the listings. As long as you have a business license to apply, you’re going to be able to register and have your work included on the storefront. Using real money, you’re going to be able to buy Minecraft Coins and Microsoft has already shared some prices:

The first 30% of the proceeds of each content purchase will go to the store and more than 50% will go to the creator. In order to buy coins, you’re going to need an Xbox Live account. The coins will go into an online wallet and you’ll be able to spend them across any of the game’s Bedrock Edition. There’s also an exception: the iOS version of the Pocket Edition because it stores these purchases separately. Each individual piece of content will be at least $1.99.
