Have you noticed any Bluetooth connectivity issues after installing the June Patch Tuesday updates on your system? If you have, don’t worry, you are not alone.
Microsoft already acknowledged this bug that affects various versions of Windows 10, Windows 8.1 and Windows Server. For more information about the OS versions affected by this isssue, go to Microsoft’s support page.
Microsoft released a patch to fix Bluetooth issues as a part of security updates released on this Patchday. As mentioned before, the bug is affecting only certain Bluetooth devices.
Therefore, you need to check if your device is on the list of the affected devices. You need to launch Event Viewer and look at the Event Log to determine the bug. Navigate to Start menu >> type Event Viewer >> Run as administrator and check event details.
Your device is affected if your Event Log displays the following Event Message:
Your Bluetooth device attempted to establish a debug connection. The Windows Bluetooth stack does not allow debug connection while it is not in the debug mode.
How to fix Bluetooth issues after update
So, now it’s confirmed that your PC can’t pair with Bluetooth devices. You can try one of the following solutions to fix the issue.
1. Check for updates
Most of the times, this issue is caused by outdated software installed on your system. Therefore, you should check for software updates by visiting the website of your device manufacturer.
2. Uninstall security updates
Microsoft confirmed that the recent security updates released on June 11 cause this issue. The tech giant says you may fail to connect, pair or use some Bluetooth devices.
Therefore, if your Bluetooth device was previously working fine, you can remove these update to resolve these issues. However, as Microsoft explains:
These security updates address a security vulnerability by intentionally preventing connections from Windows to unsecure Bluetooth devices. Any device using well-known keys to encrypt connections may be affected, including certain security fobs.
This solution is not officially recommended and you should avoid it– if possible.
3. Wait for the patch
Microsoft is aware of the issue and we expect the hotfix to land in the coming days. A temporary solution is to stop pairing your Bluetooth devices until a patch is available.
If you have not installed the June security updates for Windows 10, you can avoid the Bluetooth issues by delaying the installation of updates.
