Xbox Play Anywhere is probably the most important annoucement at Microsoft’s E3 2016 conference. It’s an elaborate plan designed to bridge the gap between consoles and PC when it comes to video games. It’s also something no other company is attempting to pull off, leaving Microsoft to tap into this market by itself.

With this very important initiative, it is possible for Xbox One players to purchase a game on their console and own it on a Windows 10 PC. Players can save a game on the PC and restart from the same save point via their console and vice-versa. The downside here is the fact that players must download the Windows 10 version of the game solely from the Windows Store.

Here’s what Microsoft had to say about Xbox Play Anywhere in a statement to Polygon:

“The Windows 10 Anniversary Update and the related Xbox update coming this summer enable the Windows Store on Windows 10 and Xbox One to support Xbox Play Anywhere games,” a Microsoft spokesperson told Polygon. “Then, beginning with the launch of ReCore this fall and continuing with Forza Horizon 3, Gears of War 4, Halo Wars 2 and others, when you digitally purchase a game that supports Xbox Play Anywhere, you have access to the game on both Xbox One and Windows 10 PCs for one price and your progress, game saves and achievements are shared seamlessly across both platforms.”

Xbox Play Anywhere officially kicks off on September 13th with ReCore released the same day as the first ever video game to support this feature, a game set to launch on the same date.
