Play background podcasts on Xbox One with Cast app

Xbox One has become an ideal platform thanks to the latest updates, not just for gaming but also for listening to podcasts on the new Cast app – sounds like a complete package.

Microsoft announced two major features in the Xbox One patch: background music and Universal Windows Platform support. With the first feature, you are able to listen to any tune using services like Microsoft’s Groove app. While with the latter you can make any app work on Windows PC, Windows phone, and Xbox One.

A creative developer has merged these two capabilities in a single platform to make podcasts, able to play in the background on Xbox One. But you won’t be able to make the podcast app work on Xbox one without the latest update. After installing the update, follow the steps mentioned below:

  • Go to the Xbox Store
  • Type Cast App to locate the app. If you can’t find it, check to see if you have the option Apps selected in the drop-down menu.
  • Download the app
  • Browse through for your favorite podcasts and start listening.
  • To adjust the volume manually, you can tweak it to your preference in volume settings.

    • The addition is not perfect of course, it still needs some fine-tuning. One of the things that might be annoying for users is the inability to lower the volume of the game and turn up the background sound. But nonetheless, you can still listen to your favorite podcasts while getting your game on.

    However, there is still an option to double-click the Xbox button during the game to pause, mute or skip to the next episode anytime. If the quick menu is brought up, the Xbox controls automatically switch to default audio settings if you have something playing in the background.

    Though we agree that the podcast app might need some for work to reach perfection, but it gets most people’s boat floating with the basic and yet so useful features like, subscribing to your favorite shows, adding episodes to marathon session’s playlist, and the facility to pause and resume from the same point you left off. Even when you switch platforms like pausing on a PC and picking up from the console or vice-versa, Cast automatically syncs everything in your cloud Microsoft account.
