  • First of all, close all Microsoft Office applications.
  • Don’t hesitate to back up the registry for restoration in case any problems occur.
  • Click Start > Run.
  • Type regedit in Run box, as you need to open the Registry Editor.regedit in Run box
  • Find and click this registry subkey: HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftOffice15.0CommonInternet or HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftOffice16.0CommonInternet. In case of using Office 2013, it will be 15. In case of Office 2016, you’ll find 16.
  • If the UseOnlineContent registry entry exists in this path, skip the next two steps.UseOnlineContent registry
  • If not, on the Edit menu, point to New.
  • Click DWORD Value.
  • Type UseOnlineContent.
  • Press Enter.
  • Right-click UseOnlineContent.
  • Now, hit Modify.
  • In the Value data box, type 2, and then click OK.
  • You could also completely remove the UseOnlineContent key.
  • Exit Registry Editor.
  • Now, you need to restart your system for the changes to take effect properly.
  • Finally, open the Microsoft Office application. Continue the same procedure you were performing when getting the error message.
