Microsoft released the Xbox Series X/S consoles toward the end of 2020. Since then, it has not been entirely easy to snap up those consoles as supply has struggled to match demand.
Now, however, Microsoft has offered to reserve Xbox X/S consoles for some Xbox Insiders.

Microsoft announced a new Console Purchase Pilot program on the Xbox Insider Twitter page. There the big M confirmed some U.S. Xbox Insiders will be able to reserve Xbox Series X/S consoles for purchase. Microsoft’s Twitter announcement states:
Today we’re introducing the Console Purchase Pilot, allowing US #XboxInsiders on Xbox One to register for a chance to reserve an Xbox Series X/S console. Check the Xbox Insider Hub on Xbox One for details. Limited space is available and not all who register will be selected.

Microsoft is testing the Console Purchase Pilot scheme at the moment. So, only a limited number of Xbox Insiders will be able to reserve Xbox Series X/S consoles.
Select Xbox Insiders will receive dashboard message notifications with Xbox X & S reservation offers.
Users who decide to take up the offer will then be able to purchase the new consoles directly from their Xbox Ones.
Thus, some users can now reserve and purchase the Xbox X & S directly from their consoles instead of the usual retail channels.
Obtaining an Xbox Series X/S console via the usual channels has not been especially straightforward. Those consoles have flown off the shelves since their release.
An electronic global chip component shortage, generated by the pandemic, has made it hard for supply to keep up with demand.
So, some Xbox fanatics might be tempted to join Xbox Insider for a possible chance of reserving one of the new consoles. To do so, you will need to download the Xbox Insider Bundle app on your Xbox.
Then launch that app, and select the Join option.
Microsoft might expand the Console Purchase Pilot scheme in the foreseeable future.
If so, an expanded pilot scheme could enable most Insiders, in the U.S. and beyond, to reserve and obtain the latest Microsoft consoles via their Xbox Ones.
