KB4467684 fixes File Explorer crashes but brings bugs of its own

Yesterday, I wrote about a new update that was going to released before the new Patch Tuesday (December 11) and it seems Microsoft has obliged by doing exactly that. In fact, Microsoft had released a few different updates, but let’s start with one of the biggest, which is Cumulative Update KB4467684.

Please Note: This update applies to Windows 10, version 1607, Windows Server 2016.

Let’s look at the various fixes that Microsoft hopes will be dealt with by Cumulative Update KB4467684 once this patch is installed. It only contains improvements and no new operating system features are included.

Not surprisingly, there are a couple of known issues with Cumulative Update KB4467684.

Symptom

For some users, instantiation of SqlConnection can throw an exception. Other users may not be able to use the Seek Bar in Windows Media Player when playing specific files.

Workaround

There are no known workarounds for the two issues above. Microsoft says, “Microsoft is working on a resolution and will provide an update in an upcoming release.”

How to get this update

Microsoft recommends that to install Cumulative Update KB4467684, you use the update feature in Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update > Check for updates.
